Traveling with kids changes what you need from a rental. Bunk rooms and game rooms keep them busy, separate floors give the adults some quiet, and a pool or beach nearby takes care of the afternoons. Every home we host was set up with families in mind.
Alm Haus: a whole floor for kids
Alm Haus is our most kid-focused home. The top floor is a dedicated kids' retreat: a bunk room with three queen beds, a play area with a reading tent with twinkle lights, a toy kitchen and a library, plus a private queen room so parents can stay close. Downstairs is a game room with foosball and a Pac-Man arcade. Families also get Shanty Creek pool access.
Overlook Bellaire: room for several families
Overlook's walkout lower level has a bunk room with four queen beds, plus a second living area with a pool table, game table and arcade, so the kids get their own space. Upstairs, each family gets a private king bedroom. It sleeps 16.
Northwoods Treehaus: bunk room with an arcade
The Treehaus's bunk room has a twin-over-queen bunk, a Pac-Man arcade, bean bags and a 55-inch TV. Three king bedrooms mean the adults get real beds too, and there's a board game library and Shanty Creek pool access.
Seven Pines Chalet: beach days and outdoor play
Seven Pines has a kids' loft with twin beds and a trundle, a game room with a pool and air hockey table, a basketball court, a walking labyrinth, and a private trail to a Lake Michigan beach.
White Birch Cabin: shallow water on Lake Michigan
White Birch sits on a protected bay with shallow water for swimming, right outside the door. There's a lookout loft upstairs where kids can have their own space, cornhole, and kayaks and a paddleboard in season.
